I'm especially pleased with this. You may recognize my youngest son in this one. He's very photogenic - provided he doesn't know the camera is pointed at him. If he knows you are taking his picture, he either fidgets, looks like someone punched him or hams it up so much you can't get a decent shot. I wasn't too please with the original of this one, but a little editing went a long way.

Edgar?
It's Halloween time and I recently read Charlie's Raven by Jean Craighead George, so ravens have been on my mind. Not that I would know a raven if I saw one. I don't know what kind of bird this is. I thought it was a blackbird when I took the picture, but when I uploaded the pics he has more of blueish tint. I know he's not a bluebird. Whatever he (or she) is, he's a handsome fellow.

Witchy Photo
On Facebook, I created a group called Photo Scavengers and challenged people take photos of 10 different Halloween/Fall related items. It has to be a photo they took with their camera or their phone. It can't be something they downloaded from the internet. Being Halloween, of course one of the things they have to find is a witch. Here's my witch photo for the scavenger hunt.
Below is the original photo I shot.
I think the edited one is more Halloweenish? What do you think?

Another Shot of the Peak
Lately, I've been thinking about using some of my photos to make note cards to give away as gifts. I figured that something will fall colors or a really good shot of The Peak would make nice cards. I think I've find just the shot. What do you think?

Happy Friday
Ok. So I've been approached for my first paying photo gig since we left North Carolina. (I did a friend's daughter's wedding and was going to do it for free, but they insisted on paying anyway. I gave the money to charity.)
It will be a sports team shoot and I'm nervous. One of the team members is the daughter of a good friend. Wish me luck. I really want these to turn out well.
Here's today's photo.

Blasts From the Past
Back in my college days, I worked with hand tinted black and white photos. (This was a way to fulfill the color requirement without having to work with slides. I hate color slides). I wonder if anyone still does the hand tinting or if it is all done with photo editing software?

Fall provides such great opportunities for interesting pictures. What's your favorite thing about fall?

Same Shot - 3 Different Pictures
The top photo is the original photo. Just a little editing and you have a totally different shot. I think I like the B&W best. What do you think?

Another Reading Related Picture
In continuing with the photos encouraging reading theme, here's a picture I took at the Rick Riordan book signing at The Tattered Cover in Highlands Ranch, CO. The cover of the book is beautiful in and of itself, but I like how just playing around with some editing software enhances the cover.

READ Posters
So my latest creative idea is to create my own Read posters. But I'm going to use my own designs and not ALA's. Unfortunately, since I will be using students from my elementary school, I won't be able to share them on the blog - the student's privacy/safety is very important. But here are few without my students.

I'm Back
I've been a way for quite a while. First there was that whole move to Missouri, no move back to Colorado, who cares if you gave up a great job and can't get it back adventure provided by the Army. Then, there was the thrill of unpacking and finding so many things ruined. And finally, the stress of trying to fit in at a new school and job. But I haven't stopped taking photos, I just stopped talking about them. I really enjoy photography, almost as much as I enjoy books, so I'm going to give this blog another shot.
It's fall and for many people that means a change in the scenery. Leaves start to change colors - lots of beautiful reds, oranges and yellows. Here are a couple of photos I've been working with lately.
Don't these photos make you want to grab your sweater and your favorite walking buddy and go for a stroll?
